Tax season got you STRESSED?
3 quick tips to De-Stress today!
It's tax season which means stress can be at an all time high with finances. It's especially important this time of year with the flu going around to minimize your stress to keep your immune system working well. Quickly watch the video above to see how chronic heightened stress is affecting you. Below are 3 quick and simple steps you can take daily to help manage your stress levels.
1. Deep Breathing: “Deep breathing counters the effects of stress by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure,” psychologist Judith Tutin, PhD, says. She's a certified life coach in Rome, GA. Take a 5 min break & focus on breathing. Inhale through the nose as you raise your arms above the head, hold a few seconds, and then exhale through mouth the mouth as you slowing lower the arms to your side. Feel your breath fill abdomen. Three deep breaths help circulate the entire lymphatic system.
2. Exercise Regularly: Exercise helps the body release endorphins (happy hormones), can help you lose weight, decrease your risk of heart attack & cancer, strengthens bones, improves mood/mental health, and increases your longevity of life.
3. Meditate: Good emotional health is vital to living a stress free life. “Research suggests that daily meditation may alter the brain’s neural pathways, making you more resilient to stress,” says psychologist Robbie Maller Hartman, PhD, a Chicago health and wellness coach. Meditating just a few min/day can help decease anxiety. For me that means spending time reading the Bible and praying.
Extra tip: Essential oils can be another great way to decrease stress! According to Dr. Axe, "essential oils have been shown to improve anxiety symptoms by reducing the effects that stress and cortisol have on the body. " Frankincense, lavender, and bergamot are a few great options. One of our families personal favorite blends for stress is called Stress Away. WARNING: Make sure to use quality/safe essential oils, I can not stress this enough. Not all essential oils are made equal.
